City Furniture to Open First Modern Miami Store

May 01 2017

MIAMI — City Furniture will open a 28,000-square-foot store here later this year focused on modern home furnishings styles.

The Top 100 company will be the flagship retailer tenant for District 36, a mixed used development, opening on Northeast 1 st Avenue. City will lease about 28,000 square feet on primarily the second floor, part of a 63,000-square-foot development of retail, showroom and cafe space, with 195 rental apartments above.

City’s opening is slated for the fourth quarter and it will be the retailer’s 17th City showroom.

In a release from the leasing company, City President Keith Koenig said, “We are super excited about opening our new City Furniture location at the intersection of Midtown and the Design District.

“It will be an all modern showcase of fabulous furniture at exciting values,” he said.

The 28-store Tamarac, Fla.-based Top 100 company, opened a combination City and Ashley HomeStore location in Vero Beach already this year and has additional expansion plans, including two 120,000-square-foot City Furniture stores coming to greater Orlando, Fla.

Koenig told Furniture Today that the company has purchased the properties for the stores and hopes to begin construction by the fourth quarter or early 2018, with openings planned 12 months after the work begins.

It also has secured a site for a 100,000-square-foot City-Ashley HomeStore location in the Miami Doral market, he said. Construction has started, and the store is slated to open in the first quarter of 2019.
