South Florida's recent food hall boom has expanded to South Miami, where an outdoor shopping mall is in the midst of redevelopment.
Yumbrella opened in a 6,500-square-foot space at the Shops at Sunset Place, which is owned and operated by Federal Realty Investment Trust, Grass River Property and The Comras Co. The joint venture in 2017 detailed a plan to overhaul the property to add apartments, a hotel, more office space and additional public plazas while reducing its retail component.
Food hall projects like Yumbrella have been popping up all over South Florida in recent months for reasons detailed by the South Florida Business Journal in this story. Because of continually rising rents in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic — the very spots where restaurateurs want to open their businesses — landlords offering spaces at food halls have become an increasingly attractive option.
Yumbrella has seven restaurant concepts under one roof that share a kitchen. The space also has a stage for DJs and live performances along with a room for private events.
Cracked by Chef Adrianne serves classic American fare. It's the concept's second location after Cracked first opened at The Wharf in Miami last year. The chef behind the concept, Adrianne Calvo, also owns Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar.
Dr. Limon Express has a menu of Peruvian cuisine by Chef Carlos Brescia approaches Peruvian. He is behind Dr. Limon Restaurant, which has seven locations in South Florida.
Killer Melts serves grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers. The concept is from Kendall.
NOODS offers Asian fare.
King of Racks BBQ offers barbecue and American food.
The Tonic is a craft liquor bar.
The Beverly offers craft ice cream and fresh baked desserts.
Yumbrella is billed as South Miami's first food hall. Other recent food hall openings in Miami-Dade County include Lincoln Eatery in Miami Beach and La Centrale in Miami's Brickell.
