Meet Michael Comras of The Comras Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Comras.

Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Comras Company is partners with the Joint Venture that owns the shopping destination CocoWalk. My story goes back 25 years ago when I started building and leasing in the Coconut Grove neighborhood. The Grove was in its heyday, tourists and locals would come to CocoWalk as the destination for entertainment, shopping and weekend activity.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Within the next years Miami became a different place, Miami Beach was rising in popularity and the Grove began to lose some of its lusters as visitors gravitated to emerging neighborhoods with new dining and entertainment offerings.

Fast-forward to today, Coconut Grove is experiencing a strong comeback with new office buildings getting built and new dining and shopping concepts that cater to the local population opening. Young families live, work and play in the area, which is fueling the Grove’s transformation into an urban lifestyle destination for locals and visitors.

The Comras Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At The Comras Company, we have developed a great niche in the Miami market, focusing on attracting quality retail, restaurants and entertainment concepts that are place makers and aligning them with the right urban neighborhoods. We’ve had the ability through that time to acquire and develop some of the most iconic retail properties throughout South Florida, including playing an active role in Lincoln Road’s resurgence where we have brought high-profile brands, including Apple, Nike, and Gap, which generate tremendous foot traffic for the corridor. We recently completed a redevelopment of that entire block, bringing together exciting brands from around the country, which will drive additional consumer demand.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our ability to understand the deals from different angles and find creative solutions to the issues that our clients face makes us very valuable. We’re proud to see how our team’s work has been at the forefront of attracting great brands and creative and immersive concepts to Miami’s top destinations, from Las Olas to Lincoln Road, Wynwood and the Grove. What I’m most proud of today is our talented team of 10 brokers and how – together – we have built one of the largest retail-specialized brokerage firms in Miami.
